“Lie down Chauncy! LIE DOWN!!” – Dr. Doolittle (1998)
- While Dr. Doolittle is waiting at the vet to find out what’s wrong with his dog, he hears a number of dogs talking. The woman next to him is screaming at her pooch who won’t follow commands. She explains to Doolittle that her dog is deaf, the dog then counters (unbeknownst to his owner) that he’s not deaf he just hates listening to her. The whole time the owner is screaming this line.
- I love this quote because I’ve used it whenever someone isn’t listening or paying attention. I’ve also found myself yelling it at my own dogs who now both probably think their names are Chauncy.

I’m more intrigued Israel chose something from Dr. Doolittle. It must have been a long plane ride with few options to sit through that one.
“How’s your mother?” She’s on her way out. “Aren’t we all, act accordingly.” Jack Nicholson- the Departed (2006)
I love this line. It reminds me of Richard Petty (I saw this on Sportscenter, don’t think I’m an auto racing fan…not one bit) where he said, “I’m day to day but aren’t we all?” Perfectly stated.
The mention of Richard Petty reminds me of another great quote from him from a “What I’ve Learned” column in Esquire 10+ years back…
“The first thing I learned about a car was how to wash one.”
