Hey guys, what are you watching? Well, here’s what we’ve seen 2/8/21

What Kevin Gootee has been watching:

No Country For Old Men (2007)

A mulleted Javier Bardiem kills people to get drug money back while using a bolt gun used to kill cows. Cohen Brothers know how to build tension and characters, their best film by FAR. 7.5/10

Suspira (1977)

One of the worst made and sound mixed films. Insanely low budget story of an American ballerina heads to a ballet school in Europe. Bad things happen and it just may be ghost/witch related. Guess what? I bailed 20 minutes in as I just didn’t give a fuck. 1/10

Simon Killer (2012)

An American in Paris (we’ve seen this plenty) is getting over his ex-gf when he finds a hooker he begins to fall for (seen this even more) and begins to sink into her seedy world. Should you seek it out? No. Should you turn it off if you stumble on it in the beginning? No. It’s…FINE. 6/10

The Little Things (2021)

  • Deputy Sheriff Joe “Deke” Deacon (Denzel Washington) joins forces with Sgt. Jim Baxter (Rami Malek) to search for a serial killer who’s terrorizing Los Angeles. As they track the culprit, Baxter is unaware that the investigation is dredging up echoes of Deke’s past, uncovering disturbing secrets that could threaten more than his case.
  • I love Denzel and this movie looked like it was going to be an interesting ride with Malek and Jared Leto on board. Unfortunately, it was more like a choppy ride on a tour boat where half the people end up getting sick and the other half just jump overboard. Malek was poorly cast as straight laced, by-the-book, God-Fearing Sgt. Baxter. I never bought into his character or really cared. Washington mailed this one in and barely seemed interested in being there at all. At best, he was a napping Denzel. Leto was the highlight of the movie, but his character had little to do and little real relevance to the movie itself. The plot and the final message was weak and even had people arguing over the twist, but there is no twist – that’s how bad this was! It had people looking for a deeper meaning to this mess. I could go on, but instead I’ll just say, “avoid this one, it’s not worth your time.”
