The Rescuers (1977)

I was on vacation last week and the weather was so good, I hardly watched anything. So the only thing I rewatched was (3 kids in a beach house) was the Rescuers. I saw it in the 80s when they re-released it and remembered it was good. Watching it now, it’s kind of dark as 2 mice (voiced by Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor, 2 names that are in a time capsule that no one today will have ZERO knowledge of) rescue an orphan named Penny. She’s small enough to help find a jewel in the bog of what seems to be Louisiana or one of those states no one cares about. It really tugs on the heartstrings as this little girl’s only wish is to be adopted. Man, I’ve become such a pussy in my older age and becoming a dad. Decent watch, still enjoyed it despite no real memorable characters, songs, nor quotes. They did make a sequel in which I still didn’t see…

6.5/10

Jungle Cruise (2021)

  • Dr. Lily Houghton enlists the aid of wisecracking skipper Frank Wolff to take her down the Amazon in his ramshackle boat. Together, they search for an ancient tree that holds the power to heal — a discovery that will change the future of medicine.
  • I love the Rock and, let’s be honest, he’s movies have been pretty bad of late. Jungle Cruise was definitely a step up. It’s a family film that adults and kids can enjoy. That said, it’s not a thrill ride. But it’s cute. I would like to point out something about Mr. Johnson – I think he is incapable of having chemistry with his female lead. The Rock stars alongside Emily Blunt and the two feel like loving siblings. I never believe they are at all romantically related. That said, good movie. 6/10
